Charles (Chad) Peck leads IBM’s Biometaphorical Computing Research Group. This group is dedicated to neuroimaging and to analyzing, modeling, and understanding the brain for scientific, medical, and technology applications. Representative projects, past and present, include improving HRRT PET reconstruction algorithms with the Stockholm Brain Institute, developing fMRI-based biomarkers for early diagnosis of schizophrenia with Neurospin, data-driven modeling via the Blue Brain collaboration with EPFL, and theory driven modeling of global brain function and individual structures, such as the cortex, cerebellum, and basal ganglia. To support this research, Dr. Peck and his team conduct research into leading edge statistical analysis and machine learning techniques and have developed a simulation environment for large scale neural system modeling on high performance computing platforms.

Since 2006, Dr. Peck has also been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University, where he co-teaches a course in Global Brain Modeling each fall. In 1998, before joining IBM, Dr. Peck was one of nine people from Lockheed Martin to win the NOVA Award for Technical Excellence, the corporation’s highest honor. Dr. Peck was also selected by the National Academy of Engineering as one of America’s top young engineers. In 1994, Dr. Peck received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
